Club
History from 1984 to present
day
Golfclub Markgräflerland
Kandern was founded on the 18th of October 1984 by 30 founding members
in the Town Hall of Kandern. However golf began some 18 months later in
May 1986, on a temporary driving range which is now the first fairway.
In the same year the club became a member of the Badischen Golf
Federation (BGV). A year later they became a member in the German Golf
Federation (DGV) and opened the driving range and present practice
facilities. In 1988 the first nine holes (holes 1, 2 and 12 to 18) were
opened, designed by the German golf course architect Karl F. Grohs.
The
paperwork began in 1989 on extending the course to 18 holes. The club
house and caddy house were opened in September 1991. In May 1994 work
"Finally" began on the second nine holes (holes 3 to 11)
designed by well known American golf course architect Bradford Benz. In
August 1995 the moment was finally there and GC Markgräflerland was the
proud owner of 18 holes.
Since 1995 the course and
facilities have improved year by year. In 2001 the club became a member
of the Swiss Golf Federation (over 70% of it’s members are Swiss).
Since 2000 several top Regional and National Amateur Championships have
taken place, as well as several Swiss PGA events. In 2004 the club
celebrated it’s 20th anniversary and today is recognised as one of the
top golf clubs in the “three-country
corner”, where the borders of Germany, Switzerland and France meet.
